BSD teachers, principals and staff care about all our students, their well-being and their continuing learning, especially now in this challenging time.
Accordingly, BSD teachers and staff will keep checking in on their students during the remainder of Phase 2 Learning at Home.
Teachers and/or staff will connect and check in with all students weekly.
Please note that due to time considerations, teachers will not be able to check in regularly with individual students. Check-in approaches may take the form of interactions through virtual platforms, small group video meetings (via Google Hangouts Meet or Zoom) including office hours, email, or phone calls.
If any teacher is unable to connect with any particular one of their students, the check-in process will escalate along the following pathways:
If a teacher is unable to connect with the student, they will notify their Principal and School Counselor.
The School Counselor/support staff will then try to connect with the student and their family through multiple modalities (phone, email, etc).
If School Counselor/support staff are unable to connect they will notify the Principal who will then try to connect with the student and their family
If the principal is unable to connect with family, they will contact Diego Zarate, Coordinator of Student Support Services about a possible joint home visit.
Parents should contact their student’s teacher with any questions about check-ins.
Teachers may hold office hours at designated times, when students can interact live with their teacher through a video meeting. Office hours are not intended as times to provide whole class, live instruction, but rather to provide support to individual and small groups of students.
Please check with your child's teacher or their communications for info on hosted office hours they are providing.
To allow students to interact "live" with their teachers, BIS teachers will host office hours on the following days (beginning the week of April 20, 2020):

The CA State Legislature has waived instructional minute requirements during school closures in response to COVID-19. Additionally, the San Mateo County Office of Education has recommended no formal taking of attendance
As a result, BSD will not be formally taking attendance or require parents to submit attendance logs for home learning.
Even without formal attendance taking procedures during home learning, BSD encourages parents to both encourage and support active, consistent and sustained student engagement in learning at home.
Please view the various resources throughout this portal site to help support successful engagement and learning.
