Summative assessments are integral to evaluating students’ knowledge and learning at the end of a unit. This artifact demonstrates three different summative assessments. You will find a description of each approach, an explanation of what the assessment tells about student learning and a reflection on its strengths and limitations. In my classes, I implemented two assessment approaches -- the StudySync end-of-unit exam and a creative narrative. The third example is a summative assessment that I think would like to integrate into my future practice. I planned lessons and activities in my unit around the knowledge necessary for students to succeed in the final summative assessments. Reviewing these assessments was vital for using backward design for my unit.
