To prepare for student teaching, I compiled ten instructional design resources -- core practices, protocols, and technology tools -- specific to English Language Arts that challenge students to engage in higher-order thinking and deeper learning. Each slide explains the resource in detail, including its purpose, a description of the process, affordances and challenges, and examples. This toolbox is not only helpful for me, but it is also a practical resource for other educators interested in expanding their practice.
I had to thoroughly consider each resource and imagine how I could use it during my unit and future practice. For example, I included multiple pre-reading strategies that fostered motivation in students to engage with our target text (Antigone). My 10th-grade class also benefited from the numerous during-reading strategies because it helped them unpack the complex language and themes in the 2500-year-old play Antigone. My careful curation of this toolbox prepared me well to serve the diverse needs of my students.
I have included this in my portfolio because it shows my proficiency in planning and tailoring instruction.
