Here you will find the presentation slides that my co-teaching partner and I shared with students’ loved ones during Friends and Family Night, when students shared the work they completed throughout the summer. The day before this exhibition, I called students’ homes to invite their families and friends. In the slides, we introduced visitors to the essential questions of our unit: What is justice, and who decides? How do we distinguish between good and evil? How do one's family and environment influence who they are? We provided an introduction to the novel Pet by Akwaeke Emezi, the main text that our class revolved around. We also encouraged visitors to look at important assignments on the wall that students had completed, including poems, character silhouettes, and reflections on different forms of justice.
I have included this artifact as an example of my professionalism because I believe this showcases my ability to communicate with students and families regarding student learning. It also shows my efforts to expand the community I had been building in my classroom.
