I presented the following slides to my colleagues as a reflection of my best lesson during Brown Summer High School. This presentation describes the process of the lesson, its purpose, objectives, and connections to the Common Core Standards. I have also included a description of how this lesson ties into the pedagogical practice we studied in the Education Theory and Practice I course. Creating Character Silhouettes was an engaging opportunity for students to learn about themes, character development, and central ideas present in the novel Pet by Akwaeke Emezi. This lesson prepared students for the second summative assessment for the course, which was a student-led discussion about the novel.
I chose this lesson as an artifact of my professionalism because I believe it showcases one of my greatest strengths: the ability to critically self-reflect on my teaching practices. Self-reflection is crucial for growth, and I always seek opportunities to improve my teaching to serve my students best.
