Toni and Ellen
Toni and Ellen are close friends who sell baked goods at the Armory Park Farmers Market. They asked not to have their stand photographed.
Toni: This is our second year selling. I’ve sold bread other ways before, through farm shares independently. [Farm Fresh] reached out to me because they wanted a bread vendor. I worked alone, but then I met people like Ellen who make other stuff.
Ellen: We normally have other things available.
Toni: Today the cookies sold out. I feel like it always slows down in the fall, I think that’s just how it is, selling stuff. The energy, people stay inside.
I started selling bread from my home during the pandemic when everything was closed, which is a pretty classic story for bakers who sell from home. I started with a farm share the summer of 2020. It’s meant for smaller farms, where you pay upfront for the season and every week you get a box of vegetables or bread.
Ellen: My other job is on Thursdays, so I can help Toni after I finish. Sometimes I bake in the morning and then come after. I made miso peanut butter cookies, it was a recipe from the Internet that I tweaked a little. I have a really good time every time I come, I’m delighted. I have an awesome time. Sometimes the weather is a bit challenging, affecting people who come. Even today I was worried it was gonna rain, but then it turned out okay.
