Hanging Around

While most people see the farmers market primarily as a source of local produce, Jeff is more interested in the community. He spends most of the market sitting by his good friend Sam, a Farm Fresh employee.
Jeff: I love coming to the market. And conversing and socializing with different people. I’ve been coming for quite a few years. I’m not sure when I started, but it was a while ago. I come every week. I'm more of a people person. So I'm not really looking for products. I like sitting with different people in different groups. You know, just meeting people.
I do appreciate the freshness and locality of this, the food they sell here. I come here to buy stuff and also talk to people. I personally like apples. And tomatoes. And bok choy. And spinach.
I talk to Sam every week. Sam works the table, you know. I met her through this. She's quite incredible. I'm talking about you, Sam.
Sam: Thanks. Haha. I don't try too hard.
Jeff: Well, you don't need to try. That's the thing with you.
Sam: Thanks, Jeff.
Jeff: No problem. I like this market a lot. I utilize the SNAP benefits. I think it's a great way to get people who would normally, with an EBT card, buy junk. It’s a great way for them to be able to get fresh fruit, vegetables, and local produce where, otherwise they'd be buying junk. It's a great way for them to eat better food.
