Have I got gas central heating?
If you have gas central heating, you will have metal radiators throughout the property which fill with hot water to provide heat. You will also have a boiler- usually in the kitchen or a cupboard.
How do I know if the heating is on?
You should be able to hear the boiler working as it heats the water to feed the radiators.
Troubleshooting
Follow this guide if you are having trouble turning on your heating, proceeding to the next step if necessary.
Check the thermostat Not all properties have them, but most do. It will usually either look like a dial with temperatures in C° on it, or will be intergrated into a programmer (see pictures).
If you have a dial, turn it up above 20C°- you should hear a click as it passes the current air temperature in the room. The heating will maintain the temperature you have set the dial to.
If you have a digital programmer, there will usually be + and - buttons. Use them to increase the heating above 20C° and see if the boiler starts working.
Check the programmer Most systems have this, but not all. This is generally a white box, likely near the boiler. Set the heating to 'on' or 'constant' to tell the box to activate the heating.
Check the radiator TRVs Most radiators have a dial on the side. Make sure this is turned up.
Check the boiler has power Check that the boiler has power. There may be an isolation swith on the wall, or a switch on the boiler itself, that needs to be turned on.
Check the boiler pressure Some boilers have a pressure guage. The needle should be in the green section, if it is not please contact us.
