Learning Environment/Culture
Breckenridge Community Schools will build relationships with a focus on creating engaging opportunities that encourage student involvement.ย
Dear Breckenridge Community,
As we continue to strive for excellence in our district, one of our key areas of focus this year is improving student attendance. While we know that life can get busy, itโs important to remember how crucial regular attendance is to a student's academic success. When students are present in school, they have more opportunities to engage with their teachers, participate in discussions, and connect with their peersโall of which contribute to their learning experience.
Research has consistently shown that students who attend school regularly are more likely to succeed academically. For example, a report by Attendance Works and the Everyone Graduates Center at Johns Hopkins University highlights that students with consistent attendance tend to have better academic performance and higher graduation rates. They are more likely to score well on standardized tests and stay on track with grade-level expectations. The report emphasizes that missing just two days a monthโabout 18 days over a school yearโcan result in a significant loss of learning, impacting studentsโ ability to keep up with their peers.
On the other hand, when students miss too many days of school, they can fall behind in their studies and struggle to keep up with their peers. Even a few absences can mean missing out on important foundational concepts that build on each other throughout the school year. For this reason, our district is dedicated to supporting families and students to improve attendance rates, ensuring that every student has the best chance for success.
As we work to increase student attendance, we also recognize that each familyโs circumstances are unique. Our goal is to provide support and resources to address any barriers that may be preventing students from attending school regularly. Whether itโs health concerns, transportation challenges, or other issues, please reach out to your schoolโs office so we can work together to find solutions.
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting the education of our students. With your help, we can ensure that our students are present, engaged, and ready to learn each day. Together, letโs make this year a successful one for every student at Breckenridge Community Schools.
Sincerely,
Wade Slavik
