Celebrating Excellence: Breckenridge High Schoolβs Top Ten for the Class of 2025
As the final months of high school unfold for the Class of 2025, a sense of reflection and anticipation fills the air. Families gather photos, awards, and cherished memories in preparation for open houses, celebrating the journey that has shaped these graduates. As Nelson Mandela once said, βIt always seems impossible until itβs done.β Please join us as we look to celebrate the accomplishments of our seniors on Sunday, May 18th, 2025, at 3 p.m. in the Breckenridge High School Gymnasium for Graduation. The achievements of our seniors are a testament to their resilience, determination, and passion for success. Breckenridge High School proudly announces and celebrates the class of 2025 Top Ten. This brief article summarizes and highlights each member and the bright futures ahead. These students have not only excelled academically but have also left a lasting impact on their peers, school, and community. We are Huskie proud!
Ava Colthorp rises to the top as Breckenridge High School's Co-Valedictorian for the class of 2025. Daughter of Dave and Nora Colthorp, Avaβs achievements in and out of the classroom are exceptional. Throughout high school, she has been an active and accomplished leader both in and out of the classroom. A dedicated athlete, she excelled in varsity volleyball, basketball, and softball while also showcasing her academic talents as a member of Quiz Bowl and the Writing team. Serving as class office president and a member of the National Honor Society, she demonstrated strong leadership and a commitment to academic excellence. Her hard work has earned her numerous accolades, including Outstanding Academic Achievement in English, math, social studies, science, Spanish, and computer-aided design, as well as recognition as Outstanding Sophomore Girl. She also received the Academic All-State award both individually and as part of the Varsity Volleyball team. Beyond school, she enjoys reading, traveling, boating with family and friends, and listening to music. Looking ahead, she plans to attend Michigan State University to pursue a degree in Social Work, where she will continue to make a positive impact on others.
Kayla Goward rises to the top as Breckenridge High School's Co-Valedictorian for the class of 2025. Daughter of Brian and Julayne Goward, she has excelled in academics, athletics, and leadership throughout high school. As an active member of student council, FFA, Quiz Bowl, the writing team, and National Honor Society, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to both her school and community. She has also been a dedicated athlete, competing in basketball, volleyball, and track, earning multiple accolades, including All-State honors in track (2023, 2024) and Second Team All-Conference in basketball (2023, 2024). Her leadership and excellence in FFA were recognized with the Outstanding Junior Award, Chapter Leadership Award, and the Washington Leadership Scholarship. Academically, she has consistently maintained All-A Honor Roll status and received numerous subject awards in physics, algebra II, agricultural business, U.S. history, and world literature. Her writing talents earned her First Team All-Conference recognition, and she was honored as the DAR Good Citizen Scholarship District winner. Outside of school, she is an active member of the Circle B 4-H Club and enjoys contributing to her community. Capping off her senior year as Homecoming Queen, she now looks ahead to attending Michigan State University, where she plans to major in Accounting and continue her journey towards success.
Aimon Humm is the Salutatorian of the class of 2025. The son of Olan and Erin Humm, Aimon has been a dedicated and well-rounded leader throughout high school, excelling in academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities. As a member of the National Honor Society, Quiz Bowl, class office, FFA, and multiple varsity sportsβincluding basketball, track, and cross countryβhe has demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and perseverance. Outside of school, he enjoys deer and turkey hunting, raising Fair animals, and working alongside his dad and brother on the family farm. His involvement in Beebe Beef 4-H Club and the 4-H Exchange Club has further strengthened his passion for agriculture and hands-on learning. Academically, he has maintained All-A Honor Roll status throughout high school and has been recognized with multiple Outstanding Student awards. His hard work has also earned him several university-specific scholarships. Looking ahead, he plans to work over the summer while continuing to explore his options. He plans to pursue a degree in engineering business or an agricultural-related field at the college of his choosing.
Blair Davenport has been a dedicated and accomplished student. The daughter of Samuel and Jill Davenport, she has excelled in academics, athletics, and leadership throughout high school. As a National Honor Society, student council, and writing team member, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to academic excellence and school involvement. Athletically, she has competed in volleyball, basketball, softball, and track, earning recognition as a Volleyball and Softball All-Conference Honorable Mention and contributing to Team Academic All-State honors. Her academic success is equally impressive, maintaining All-A Honor Roll status throughout high school and earning the Outstanding Junior Award. She has also received Outstanding Academic Achievement awards in English, Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy and Physiology, Earth and Space Science, and Algebra. Additionally, Blair was honored as both Student of the Month and Student of the Week and was selected for Homecoming Court, further highlighting her positive impact on her school community. Looking ahead, she plans to attend Saginaw Valley State University to major in Pre-Physical Therapy in hopes of becoming a Physical Therapist, where she will continue striving for excellence in her academic and professional journey.
Ava Brzak is the daughter of Brandon and Anea Brzak. She has been an active and accomplished student, excelling in academics, athletics, and the arts throughout high school. A dedicated member of the National Honor Society and student council, she has demonstrated leadership and a strong commitment to her school community. She has also been involved in sideline and competitive cheer, as well as softball, balancing her athletic pursuits with her passion for music as a high school choir member. Outside of school, she enjoys singing and playing instruments like guitar and piano and is involved with the First Baptist Church of St. Louis, where she occasionally attends youth group. Her academic achievements include maintaining All-A Honor Roll status for all four years and receiving prestigious accolades such as the National Choral Award and the Competitive Cheer Coaches Association of Michigan (CCCAM) Academic Award. She has also been awarded Deanβs Scholarships and other financial awards from the colleges to which she applied. Looking ahead, she plans to attend Saginaw Valley State University to study Psychology and/or Neuroscience, where she will continue to explore her passion for understanding the human mind and helping others.
Emma Tinson has been a dedicated and well-rounded student. Daughter of Ethan and Rachele Tinson, she has excelled in academics, athletics, and leadership throughout high school.Β She has demonstrated a strong commitment to her school and community as an active member of Huskie Pack, class office, National Honor Society, and multiple sports teams. Athletically, she has made a significant impact in volleyball, track and field, and softball, earning numerous accolades, including All-County, First Team All-Conference, MVP honors in volleyball, and Academic All-State individual and team recognition across all three sports. Her achievements in softball include All-Region and All-District honors, along with being named MVP in her junior year. Beyond school, she plays for Mid-Michigan Aces Volleyball and volunteers at the West-Midland Family Center, giving back to her community. Her hard work and dedication were also recognized when she was named Scholar-Athlete of the Month by The Mitt. Looking ahead, she plans to attend Delta College to pursue a degree in Sonography, where she will continue her journey of academic excellence and service to others.
Areyel Weiss is the daughter of Troy and Dana Weiss. She has been a dedicated and accomplished student throughout high school, balancing academics, athletics, and community involvement with excellence. As a member of the varsity cross country, track and field, she has demonstrated perseverance and teamwork while also serving in student council, class office, and the National Honor Society. Her academic achievements include maintaining All-A Honor Roll status for all four years and earning subject awards in Anatomy and Physiology and Art II, highlighting her well-rounded talents. Outside of school, she works at the Gratiot-Isabella Regional Education Service District and enjoys spending time with friends and family. Looking ahead, she plans to attend Grand Valley State University to major in Nursing, where she will continue her passion for helping others and making a difference in the healthcare field.
Avery Westall is the daughter of Jeff and Jill Wetall. Avery has demonstrated outstanding dedication to academics and athletics throughout high school, excelling as both a scholar and an athlete. A multi-sport competitor, she has earned numerous accolades in cross country, basketball, and track, including All-Conference and All-Region honors in cross country from 2021-2025, as well as Individual Academic All-State recognition from 2023-2025. She was named Cross Country MVP in 2021 and contributed to her teamβs Academic All-State achievements from 2022-2025. On the track, she has been a key part of All-Conference and All-Regional 4x800m and 4x400m relay teams, earning All-State honors in the 4x800m relay in 2024. Additionally, she was named Basketball Honorable Mention for the 2024-2025 season. Academically, she has maintained Honor Roll status all four years, showcasing her commitment to excellence both in and out of the classroom. Looking ahead, she plans to attend Saginaw Valley State University to pursue a degree in Nursing, where she will continue her passion for hard work, perseverance, and helping others.
Ryanne McCallister, daughter of Ryan and Cheryl McCallister, has been a dedicated and well-rounded student throughout high school, excelling in academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities. She has been an active leader in her school community, serving in class office and participating in the National Honor Society, FFA, and the writing team. Athletically, she has competed in varsity golf, softball, and track and field, demonstrating perseverance and teamwork in each sport. Her passion for agriculture extends beyond the classroom through her involvement the Circle-B 4-H Club, where she has further developed her leadership and hands-on experience in the field. Academically, Ryanne has been recognized for her excellence with Outstanding Academic Achievement awards in World History, World Literature II, and U.S. History, as well as earning Language Arts All-League Honorable Mention. She has also maintained Honor Roll status for four consecutive years, reflecting her dedication to academic success. Looking ahead, she plans to attend Michigan State University to pursue a bachelorβs degree in Agribusiness Management.
Lily St. John is the daughter of James and Donna St. John. Lily has been an active and accomplished leader throughout high school, balancing academics, athletics, and leadership roles with dedication and success. She has been a key member of the volleyball, basketball, and softball teams, earning Honorable Mention and Second Team All-Conference recognition in volleyball and Academic All-State honors. Beyond athletics, she has contributed to her school community through the writing team, class office, Student Leadership Team, and National Honor Society. Outside of school, she has played club volleyball and spent summers working at Cups Cones & Que, demonstrating a strong work ethic and commitment to personal growth. Her academic achievements include maintaining honor roll status and earning prestigious scholarships for Grand Valley State University, including the Michigan Achievement Scholarship, Laker Lane Scholarship, and Award for Excellence Scholarship. She plans to attend Grand Valley State University to study Communications, where she will continue to pursue excellence in her academic and professional journey.
