"Together, may we give our children the roots to grow and the wings to fly."ย

Breckenridge Community Schools Community,

I wanted to take a moment to extend my heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering support shown throughout what has been a busy, fast-paced, and fulfilling week for our district.

This past week, Breckenridge Community Schools hosted an array of meaningful events, including Veterans Day assemblies, Parent-Teacher Conferences, a Scholastic Book Fair, and several sporting events. Additionally, we marked a significant milestone with the first Parent-Teacher Association meeting and a well-attended FFA Alumni meeting on Wednesday evening. It was inspiring to see so many parents, guardians, and community members come together in support of our students.

Your active involvement and dedication do not go unnoticed. Research consistently highlights that parent and community engagement positively impacts student success. A report from Education Week underscores that โ€œthe type of parental involvement matters more than the sheer quantity.โ€ The collaboration and shared commitment we have here in Breckenridge embody this truth; it's about meaningful interactions that support students academically and socially, setting the stage for their holistic development.

As we prepare for our winter sports season to commence at the high school level, I encourage all parents to continue motivating their students to participate not only in athletics but in a range of extracurricular activities. Our district takes pride in offering diverse opportunities, including student leadership, FFA, academic teams, and STEM/robotics clubs. These programs enrich studentsโ€™ educational journeys and equip them with valuable skills that transcend the classroom.

Thank you once again for making Breckenridge Community Schools a vibrant and supportive environment. Your partnership is essential, and I am grateful for your commitment to helping us nurture and inspire our students.

With gratitude,

Wade Slavik, BCS Superintendent

Communications/Community Engagement:ย ย

Breckenridge Community Schools will promote collaborative partnerships between the school, parents, and community to increase communication and engagement.ย

On Monday, our district had the privilege of hosting our local heroes for our annual Veterans Day Assemblies. This meaningful event is a cherished tradition where we express our deep gratitude to the veterans in our community and provide our students the invaluable opportunity to learn about service, sacrifice, and appreciation.

At the elementary, our students sang songs, read poems, and showed gratitude to our local heroes.ย ย

At the Middle School/High School, we were honored to hear from Doug Shankel, who shared his inspiring journey of joining the Naval Academy. Additionally, Ron Koppelberger moved the audience with his story and experiences, reminding everyone of the courage and dedication that come with military service.ย

A heartfelt thank you goes out to our staff, students, and the entire community for their participation and support in making these assemblies so impactful. It is through moments like these that we come together, learn, and reflect on the importance of gratitude and service.
