Moi
Artist: J A Thompson
Medium: Mixed media on canvas, 18”x24”
This piece is one part of an in progress diptych that represents the sides of my identity as a genderfluid person. The piece is a portrait of myself mimicking the pose of the art historical painting “Portrait of Martha De Florian” by Giovanni Boldini. It is a statement both on the feminine side of my identity and the lack of plus size models in art historical portraits, especially portrayed in the nude. The color scheme is representative of the femininity associated with the color pink, but also with a trend widely associated with girls my age during my childhood of the hot pink and zebra stripe combo. The pink also paying homage to the original painting.
