Hello! We are delighted that you have chosen to study the A-Level PE from September. The step up from GCSE to A-level can be tough for many students so we hope that the tasks provided will give you an insight into what you will be studying within the first few weeks of Year 12 and ensure you have a confident start in September.
The course is suited to students who have a genuine interest in sporting excellence and the science behind it. The two-year course covers six theoretical units, and you will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge you have learned in these units into a piece of coursework where you will evaluate your performance in a sport of choice; this coursework will be worth 15% of your final grade. In Year 12, the first topics you will study are: Section A: the Cardiovascular System, Section B: Skill characteristics and their impact on transfer and practice, and Section C: Sociological factors affecting participation. The course is demanding both practically and theoretically therefore we would like to remind you that you must be competitively taking part in an AQA recognised sport/ activity outside of Sixth Form.
Here is the link to the AQA A-Level PE Specification should you wish to further investigate the theoretical or practical side of the course.
