In Year 9, pupils can opt to study BTEC Sport as one of their option subjects. Pupils will follow a three year curriculum plan studying the Pearson BTEC Level 2 Tech Award in Sport. The course is assessed via one external summative exam (33%), and two internal written Pearson-set assignments (total 66%). The course is delivered via five 50-55 minute periods spread over a two-week timetable - these periods will be delivered through a mixture of practical and theory lessons, depending on the unit of study.
Internal assessment - externally moderated
The summative internal assessments that pupils will sit as part of their BTEC Sport course are supplied by Pearson every year. Pearson will give a scenario based upon the learning outcomes given above, and pupils must apply the knowledge they have learned in lessons to a written answer. These assignments are summative and will be completed under supervised conditions. Once completed, the assignments are marked and internally moderated by Bohunt BTEC Sport teachers, and then sent off to be officially moderated by Pearson. In the unlikely event that a pupil does not meet their expected level of performance, they will have one opportunity to improve their assignment before re-submission.
There are two assessment windows per year available for pupils to sit these assignments (October/ February). Pupils will complete the assignments in the following windows:
Component 1 = February of Year 9
Component 2 = February of Year 10
External assessment
The summative external assessment is taken in the summer of Year 11.
Bohunt will have a cohort first sit this assessment in the Summer term of 2024 so there is no previous impact data available.
Prior to teaching the 2022 specification, Bohunt taught the Pearson BTEC International Level 2 award in Sport.
