Executive Board Interview
The first quarter of the 2025-2026 school year is coming to a close, and with a new year enters a new executive board of young leaders. This year's executive board is composed of students Lance Jayme (President), Lizzy Gunn (Vice President), Megan Diggs (Secretary) and Isabelle Cooke (Treasurer). So far this year we’ve seen them enthusiastically welcome the freshman to orientation, introduce Bishop Burbidge to the student body, and run a hugely successful Chunky Soup Drive; not to mention their informative and entertaining morning announcements. So after a successful first few weeks, let's see what the executive board plans to do with their final year at Bishop O’Connell.
*This interview was with Lance Jayme, president of the SCA executive board.
Visor: Hi Lance, thanks for agreeing to an interview. First question: how do you feel about the SCA’s achievements this year, and do you like being a member of the executive board?
Lance: I think being part of the SCA board is really fun. We’ve already made so much change and we hope to make more. I think it is made up of really great moderators and leaders, and this senior class is really amazing. I know as a board that we really just love bringing joy to the school and I’m excited to continue that mission with the rest of the SCA.
Visor: What are some major goals of the 2025-26 school year?
Lance: We already completed the goal of 13,000 soup cans, but some of the major goals we have are to get more money than last year for Superdance and just getting people to go to different events.
Visor Writer: Awesome! This year the SCA board chose the theme of Courage. Why Courage, and how would you like to see this theme carried out?
Lance: We chose the theme of Courage because we wanted the school to not be scared to do what they want to do. We want them to go try out for that sport, audition for that play, talk to that person they want to be friends with, try difficult classes and join new clubs. We want them to be unafraid to try something new and explore all their passions and hobbies so that we can be better as a school and community.
Visor: Let's talk about Superdance - Any new ideas/goals?
Lance: Well I can’t spoil the theme, but I'm excited for the dance and to improve even more from the awesome turnout we had last year. The senior class this year is incredible. It’s such an important part of the O'Connell community and I know as a group we can’t wait to put it on. Our goal is to raise as much money as possible for the cause and lead the way to finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.
Visor: Keeping on the topic of dances, last year there were a lot of promises for a Winter Formal. Is this dance still in the picture?
Lance: Winter formal is still on! It will take place on January 24th after the last midterms. Shout out to the Senior Board!
Visor: What are some traditions that you as a group are trying to either heighten or possibly start?
Lance: We just really want to improve on different traditions and make it so that people keep going to all of the fun events! We also want to make sure that winter formal is kept alive.
Visor: Finally, what is some advice you’d give to the underclassmen as they go through this academic year?
Lance: Use Knight Time well. Don’t goof off, prioritize academics especially if you participate in different activities. Use the most out of your time that you're given so you don’t worry about it later. If you want to excel in other areas, school has to be the place you start. Do what you love because O’Connell will support you every step of the way. Get to know all of your peers and remember to sleep!
