Bright Knights at The Neon Dance
By Student Life Editor, Colin Barry (class of 2028)
The Neon Dance is a tradition at O’Connell that takes place at the beginning of each school year. The O’Connell family does this as a way to welcome the new freshmen to the school and community, while spending time with their friends. Each year the motto from the Student Council to increase attendance to the dance is “If it’s not neon it’s not on!” These words encouraged many freshmen to attend.
The DJ at the party played the hits, while the students danced and the black lights lit up the revelers.
Luke Dion (‘29) attended the Neon Dance and was happy to discuss the time he had. “The dance made me feel very invited to O’Connell and allowed me to build better connections with my peers.” Luke also said,“We felt very included in all of the events that happened.” He did have some feedback for next year, which was that the “DJ should accept more song requests to make the kids feel more important and have a better time at the dance.”
The students' enjoyment of the dance was displayed in the laughter, smiles and moves of everyone on the dance floor. The bright glow of the students stood out against the darkness, an appropriate image for the Bishop O’Connell community.
