How to Prepare for the Midterms
By Student Life Editor: Colin Barry (Class of 2028)
With the midterms starting on Jan. 20, studying is necessary if a student wants a good grade. As a general rule midterms are worth 20% of your semester grade and can really make an impact, especially for those who are applying for colleges at the moment. With the following tips studying can become more efficient, meaning the likelihood of great grades on the midterm exams will improve.
Studying at least two weeks prior to the Midterms - Studying an hour every day would eventually add up to a lot of time spent on reviewing the material. Studying daily for two or more hours would greatly improve chances of scoring high on exams as well.
Join/Make a study group - Making a study group with your peers is shown to be beneficial, as working with others creates a healthy learning environment. If someone is stuck on something, others are there to reassure and guide the struggling student along. This would also increase studying efficiency and focus as peers would encourage each other to continue working.
Get a tutor - This option could cost money depending on who the tutor is, but O'Connell does tutoring for free if the student is a National Honors Society (NHS) member. Tutoring can really help students dive deeper with questions that they perhaps aren’t comprehending.
Start with the most confusing subject - Starting with a subject that you are struggling with can benefit your schedule so there is time to complete the easier subjects on time before the midterms commence. Starting with the easier subject may seem better, but once completed with all the easy ones there will be a time limit on when the studying has to be done.
Make a Personalized agenda with AI - AI can be a useful tool if it is used correctly. One way it can help is with preparing a personalized study schedule for midterms. By asking AI to prioritize certain classes, and giving it insight into activities, a student can make a highly optimal study schedule in seconds. This will help the student know when they are going to be able to study.
After using all of these tips and tricks any student can achieve their desired grade in midterms, creating a positive impact towards their future.
