Girls Varsity Soccer Completes Stellar 2025 Season
By Lily Salva (Class of 2028)
The girls varsity soccer team had a terrific 2025 season. With a record of 14-2-1, it was a successful season for the “Giblets.”
Although the team succumbed to St Johns in the WCAC semi-final, they did not let the loss affect them. In fact, they came back the next week to obtain a spot in the NVIS finals with a 9-1 victory against Bishop Ireton.
The final, a competition between the PVI Panthers, proved to be a thriller from beginning to end. With support from the students and the parents, the Knights were fired up from the start. With a stunning goal by junior Mackenzie Barbato, the morale heightened and O’Connell took control of the game. A second goal was scored by junior Ryana Dill, and when the final whistle blew the team celebrated their victory.
Many players were selected to the WCAC conference teams this season. The first team consisted of Ryana Dill, Molly Clark (Class of 2028), Alex Llaudes (Class of 2026), Moira Kinsella (Class of 2026), Molly Kinsella (Class of 2026), and Rachael Zonavetch (Class of 2026). Sophomores Alex Carter and Meeghan Zonavetch made second team. The honorable mentions this season were Mackenzie Barbato, Elina Krumenacker (Class of 2029), and Eliana Moseley (Class of 2027). Ryana Dill was chosen as the WCAC Player of the Year.
Three members of the team this year have chosen to continue their soccer career in college. Congratulations to Annalise Baldwin, Molly Kinsella, and Ryana Dill! Baldwin will be attending Stevenson University (Md.), Kinsella to Duquesne University (Pa.), and Dill to the University of South Carolina.
Congratulations again to the Bishop O’Connell girls varsity soccer team, go Knights!
