The Remarkable Season for Girls Soccer

The girl's varsity soccer team had a remarkable season, with a 12-3-1 win-loss-draw record entering the WCAC championship. The semifinals against Our Lady of Good Counsel was an exciting game, with a 3-0 win for Bishop O’Connell (two goals by sophomore Audrey Mckeen, and one goal by freshman Molly Clark). The team then entered the finals against Paul VI High School. The starters included seniors Bridget Prophett and Isabella Gorkowski; juniors Rachael Zonavetch, Alex Llaudes, Sadie Smith, Moira Kinsella, and Molly Kinsella; sophomores Ryana Dill and Audrey McKeen; and freshmen Meeghan Zonavetch and Molly Clark. The first half ended with a 1-0 lead for PVI. Both teams played exceptionally well,
During halftime, some honorable mentions were announced for a remarkable 2024 season, which included Molly Clark, Meeghan Zonavetch, Isabella Gorkowski, Ryana Dill, Molly Kinsella, Bridget Prophett, Rachael Zonavetch, Mia Morill, and Audrey McKeen, who was awarded Player of the Year.
The second half started with the same lineup, with sophomore Mia Morill in goal. Although both teams played outstanding, PVI eventually secured the title. However, this was not the end for the Knights. In the final of the Northern Virginia Independent Schools state championship (NVIS), O’Connell fought back against PVI in another incredible game of soccer, taking home the title with a 3-0 win.
