SCICON

Me and my friends who worked on this had always participated in other college and university Olympiads and had an amazing time competing there, we won a few awards and learnt a lot, we really thought this was the best type of competitions but many youngest students from our batches and lower weren't aware of many so , we took it upon ourselves to make the best Olympiad experience at a lower difficulty level for the younger students to get exposure to such competitions in. It was also to show people science is not boring and just something to read from a text book this whole event was a test of understanding of application of science and teamwork and how it can be fun. So in the future they can also win at higher level competitions by being in familiar environment.
So in the start we first devised an executive body of capable students who would supervise the whole program. Then we formed a basic skeletal structure of the Olympiad in which we designed the modules basis and how the competition was to be run and how the teams were to be presented with choices. It was to consist of 6 member teams , which had to choose 2 modules from the 2 categories of modules presented. The 2 groups of modules included A) Newton's Apple (physics based module) , Asclepius (bio based module) , Clash of mathematicians ( math based module) , Chemical Conjuncture (chemistry based module). B) Just Build (creative building module), Error 404 (coding module) , Finders Keepers (quick thinking and puzzle solving module) , Once upon a Time in JC ( murder mystery solving module). 2 modules from both A and B were to be chosen. Then after convincing the school board each module was assigned a teacher and 2 student module heads to work out the 3 day activity procedures, material required and then logistics were worked out. A website was made to represent the event , different teams such as photography, registrations and volunteers were made to ensure the event ran without any hiccups and then the event was campaigned in our school and others. The event was held on 17th - 19th of January 2020 and was more successful than expected, a lot of positive feedback with people enjoying every minute of it and every day being nicely time managed and reaching its goals.
The event was a booming success, and it has given the school another iconic event to its name, by the science society and a new reimagined science competition which everyone can look up to and wait every year and the upcoming heads can keep its legacy going by conducting their own version of Scicon. It will give students an opportunity to execute their learning and understanding to solve problems and work together and prepare them for competitions like these at held at higher levels.
