Art Mahal was initiated by our student Ali Mehdi Zaidi of class 9 C blue during the pandemic. It focuses on promoting not only his artistic skills but also a community based on the shared love for art. COVID as we know has affected many adversely. The inspiration behind this was to make use of the free time that Ali had at home and use it for something that would benefit him and the whole community. He had previously conducted a research for the Beaconhouse Global Projects on “The affect of Social Media on mental health” for which we were recognized by Mr. Kasim Kasuri with a certificate and our projects were uploaded on the BGP website. This research showed him how COVID and social media proved to be a twin menace, due to which he started his business to spread positivity through Art since Art has many advantages including being soothing for our mind!
Art Mahal is the brainchild of a student who witnessed the consequences of the twin menaces; Social Media and COVID. It was during the summer vacations of 2020, when I decided that it was time for a change. Art Mahal was born to spread positivity and build a community based on the shared love for Art. Furthermore, during these difficult times, our local artisans have been left in the dust which is why it is one of my missions to reignite the fire of the Multani kilns which house the clay vessels made by our local artisans. We started with a few customized paintings ranging from pour paintings to rosemaling and one stroke paintings and hope to expand by providing a platform for the local artisans of Multan.
The Beaconhouse global projects provided me the opportunity of researching "The effects of Social Media on Mental Health". During this time, I conducted a study on my own on how Art can alter our mental state for the better; thus, Art Mahal was born with the idea of spreading positivity through Art, decreasing mental burdens and reducing the rate of depression amongst the customers, since we all know how relaxing online shopping can be as well! In addition to this, Art Mahal will provide a platform for the local artisans of Multan and will help provide employment opportunities and a steady income.
You don't build a business, you build a network and that network builds your business. One of the most important piece of information I got through this project was to develop connections and make the whole process from painting to delivery, an interactive one in order to drive up engagement and sales. In addition to this, financing plays a pivotal role in every business. Too low of a price equals loss; whereas, if it's too high, you won't get any customers. And lastly we can't forget, my educational journey throughout Multan in search of the clay vessels and the people who make them (kumhar). Learning about my culture and Multan's extremely rich heritage was amazing and the experience, unequalled by anything else! This is just something I have learned over a month, imagine what I could learn throughout my life, because learning never stops when you're part of a business!
