A simple plantation activity, which led to more bigger and useful cause of creating a medicinal garden, the concept that will eventually benefit our own community and taking Pakistan in the list of country known for the production and trade of Medicinal Plants.
•We (the group of inspiring students) from Beaconhouse Chakwal, proposed the idea of ‘Medicinal Pakistan’ by getting inspiration from Prime minister’s plantation week and the discussion on medicinal uses of plants during science lesson. We discussed and put forward the proposal of planting a medicinal garden around the school, on a wasted land and successfully convinced the Science teacher and the school management to step forth for this worthy cause. We influenced our school fellows to join in the project of Medicinal Pakistan by organizing a rally around the school and sending online posters to the parental body using digital media.
•During three consecutive plantation Weeks, we stepped forth to take up this project by transforming the wasteland into a clean and medicinal garden using our own pocket money and the donation we raised from school staff and parental body. We collected all the information regarding medicinal plants by consulting digital media, our science teacher, school Gardner and Plant nursery owner. This took a great resilience to carry on with this project. All the well off families were highly motivated and supported their children morally and financially for this noble purpose. Against all odds, we carried out a successful campaign inside and outside the school to raise funds and resources to execute this project. Things were not so smooth in the beginning, however, our enthusiasm and conviction never let us lose hope. With the support of Janitorial staff and school gardeners, we succeeded all the school levels to plant a garden.
•We met a mother in PTM who was suffering from Cancer. This mother shared her success story with us as she was formally aware of our medicinal Pakistan campaign. We successfully studied and compiled the clinical research on her case and witnessed amazing outcomes. It needs the attention of scientists and researchers as the natural extracts are more potent, efficacious and cost effective as compared to commonly known allopathic medicines currently being used in chemotherapy.
•It set a huge example for our juniors as how to contribute towards Environment sustainability, dignity for all and community services.
•The project enhanced collaboration and teamwork amongst the school community while teaching the impact of environmental sustainability on human life. DC and ADC of Chakwal appreciated the students’ efforts during their official visit to school . Government officials made an effort to get us the adjacent park of the school to be converted as medicinal garden. They also planted trees to pay their contribution towards this noble cause over 250 medicinal plants were planted in this project.
•In addition to this, we developed the empathetic and exquisite approach towards the wider community fellow beings by conducting awareness sessions on our you-tube channel and digital social media.
•We also conducted awareness sessions around the school to raise awareness what if we plant the medicinal gardens and reduce the import which results into increase the foreign exchange and export.
•A brief journey description of this activity was presented to the parents of the students as to raise awareness and to serve as a source of appreciation for the students.
•We researched and created a website on the medicinal uses of common plants along with the clinical case study.
•We didn’t stop at this, we carried out an extensive research and came across some amazing plants having anti-cancer activity. We started digging deeper and found out that a very less research work is established for the aforesaid plants.

•We have finally created a website to share all our researches and procedures. We also started growing the herbs.
•A Woman suffering from breast cancer, aged 60 , was taken voluntarily under clinical trial. She was rejected of receiving chemotherapy as the reported adverse effects were exceeding as compared to beneficial outcomes, which was relevant to her age group. Under this highly sophisticated and controlled clinical trial, her blood glucose level, blood pressure level, level of liver enzymes, urine analysis, CT scans and blood calcium level was strictly monitored. The herbs used in her treatment have attracted the attention of researchers lately but the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of these herbs are not established yet. Initially only herbal tea of Fagonia Arabica was administered but the desired effects were not achieved. Under the supervision of her oncologist and consultant pharmacist, the tea was used as loading dose , before meal followed by the administration of capsules filled with Fagonia Arabica, Berberis Aristata and curcuma longa twice daily after meals. These herbs acted synergistically, and the lab results, pertaining to reduction in tumor size, were noticeably improved.
