2020 came upon all of us as a surprise as it was the time Covid surfaced the earth and started a whole new era, one where we were expected to accept the situation at hand as fast as we could. To cope up with all that was going on with the world and how a tiny virus had changed our entire lifestyle, we started devising ideas and ways that could help modify our lifestyle according to the current situation. It is safe to say that it was a product if boredom. And that is how the idea of hosting a virtual conference was born.
Quarantine provided us with the perfect opportunity at the very best of times as we had all the time in the world. It was better than sitting uselessly at home wasting our summer and so we started working on our newly found ambition.
We spent every waking hour after that moment, planning and preparing which alone took us a month or so. We started off with assembling the team which we believed was our very own backbone. We sorted out the directorate in a week's time and assembled a very capable team. We take pride in the fact that our team was diverse, not only did it have people from all over Pakistan representing various schools but we also had international representation in our team from countries like Turkey, India, UAE and Ireland.
The next step was to have a social media presence. We managed a following of over a thousand and took part in campaigns like Black Lives Matter. This helped us attract over 600 delegates.
We hired a professional IT expert who made our logo for us and helped us set up a server on discord as no other platform was able to accommodate such a huge number of delegates. We made this a charity-based event with no delegate fee, with whatever given by the sponsors going to the needy.
We developed a portal, made an official website and worked tirelessly on our study guides.
We were able to get one of the very best chairs, whose experience alone spoke enough for their repute. We had people who had chaired OXIMUN, LUMUN, BNUMUN, ACMUN chairs that had attended real UN conferences. The day of the event went on like a breeze. We had interesting committees with healthy debates with a pinch of fun to it. We had delegations from Aitchison College, Froebel’s from Pakistan and many from countries like Canada, Portugal etc, bridging the communication gap providing an opportunity to the munners to interact with a wider community. To give it a exciting twist we introduced a fiction committee which was harry potter themed, which turned out to be very popular among the delegates provided they were able to become their favorite characters and debate on different crises on their behalf. One of the highlights of our entertainment session was having saltafa, a well-known teen influencer, conduct a fun session with the delegates. The event came to an end with a very thoughtful note by our president and vice president.
