THE RATIONALE- The Inspiration behind ‘Ansaar’
The previous year was unprecedented in many ways. Forced to stay at home due to Covid 19, we embarked on a journey to address the many issues prevalent in our society. We felt that the pandemic has increased the distress and miseries of many segments of the local community. Rising drug addiction in millennials and lack of transgender rights awareness served as core reasons behind our first 2 projects. Now the stage was set and it was now for us to provide undiverted attention to the issues. Thus, ‘Ansaar’ comprising of 3 founders was formed with a mission to contribute positively to a better tomorrow.
THE JOURNEY- ‘A Road not taken’
The initiation of Ansaar's first project involved major refining of ideas, processes, and guidance from mentors, team building, and collaboration with renowned institutions. Both of our campaigns were solely based on advocacy to the masses which included social media campaign on Instagram with informative posts and interviews.
For our first project which was based on “Anti-drug awareness,” we visited Anti-Narcotics force Rehab Centre where we were instructed upon its workings. Then we held an Anti-drug Awareness session at school conducted by the tobacco control cell: Ministry of Health which was attended by over 60 students. Moreover, our campaign was recognized by the Islamabad district Administration and the Ministry of Health.
The success of our 1st project served as a motivation that we channeled and exhibited for our 2nd project. Our 2nd project was based upon Transgender rights in the health sector for which we collaborated with the Pakistan Red Crescent. We visited the transgenders of Bari imam where Nadeem Kashish was interviewed who elaborated the problems faced by the transgender community regarding the health sector. Then we took on these reservations to the Deputy commissioner Islamabad who gave a thorough interview explaining the current situation and also promised mobile vaccination to the transgenders at Bari imam which was implemented later. Lastly, we recorded the stances of both the ministry of health and human rights on this issue.
THE IMPACT- Steps towards a better Future
“When the world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful.”- Malala Yousafzai. This quote resonates with the core morals behind our endeavor.
We believed that we can only and only have a major impact if we target the right audience and with the project we embarked upon, we were influencing the right audience which was the school students from ages 12-19 which was helpful especially for our anti-drug seminar.
Furthermore, taking up the issues of the transgenders to the higher authorities provided a voice for the transgenders and their issues. And those issues being addressed in the plans of the Ministry of Human rights would in itself help the community to be uplifted. Also providing mobile vaccination to the transgender during times they were being neglected increased their hope and that these arduous times won’t last for them and that one day they would be considered as every other human being. Moreover, transgenders have not been socially accepted into society to date. They were seen as beggars and lower-class citizens of society. So through our project, we tried to change the existing image of the transgender and tried to paint them as normal human beings just like us who deserve the same rights as we do.

KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM THE PROJECT:
Equality
Everyone should be given basic human rights no matter what gender they are. Neglecting the rights of such humans should not be permitted in a society that is based upon the harmony and unity of all human beings.
Advocacy
Activism about the underprivileged communities and the unresolved issues can only help solve them or at least bring them to light. If the youth harnesses this quality of advocacy into them, our society will move in the right direction where everyone is concerned about each other’s welfare and progress.
