What inspired the student to initiate this project?

At BCP Defence, we've observed that students benefit significantly—both academically and emotionally from chipping in their chance to make the community and world a better place. Charagh-e-Ilm, set up in 2021 brought to you by the community service society helps the support staff by giving non-formal education, numeracy and fundamental abilities preparing. Ensure the delivery of a comprehensive, high quality education program to all our support;
Effectively manage and integrate the resources available to the school;
Appropriately involve staff, students and the community in the development, implementation of the programs and operations;

The programme’s main language of instruction is Urdu. The literacy classes are based on a phonetic teaching and learning method that allows participants to learn letters and words by associating them with their respective sounds and pronunciations. This way, learners become aware of vowels and consonants gradually. They also improve their ability to identify changes in word meanings with the addition of diacritics.

During a typical session, participants learn to trace the alphabet and, later on, to construct words. As they become familiar with letters and numbers, they can recognize numeric dates as well as the days of the week. The teacher assists learners with writing exercises in workbooks. Learners create wall posters to strengthen skills and develop knowledge on a particular subject area. Other lessons incorporate role-play and text message writing exercises. This literacy programme allows participants to acquire basic literacy skills, however, it does not enable them to enter the formal education system automatically.

Leading teachers are highly skilled student volunteers as they undertake leadership and management roles of this program. The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the support staff in school or group of schools. Leading teachers are responsible for coordinating all our support staff to achieve improvements in learning. Leading teachers lead and manage a significant area or function within the Charagh-e-Ilm program with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the education program. A leading teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the educational goals made with the support staff. The Learning Specialist role is aimed at building excellence in learning within our support staff through the teaching service.

The primary focus of the classroom teacher is on the planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes. The classroom teacher engages in critical reflection and inquiry in order to improve knowledge and skills to effectively engage our support staff and improve their learning. Student volunteers play a significant role in assisting to improve support staffs performance and educational outcomes determined by strategic planning. A critical component of this program will focus on increasing the knowledge base and learning of staff within the school.

How will this project make a difference?

Charagh-e-Ilm's particular objectives are to add to the advancement of a positive learning environment for our support staff by further developing their literacy abilities, to likewise encourage a functioning social commitment and in conclusion to make positive upgrades educational opportunities on health and hygiene practices. The literacy and numeracy classes are held five days every week and keep going for four hours of the day, adding up to a sum of twenty learning hours of the week conveyed over each program stage.
