“My first year at BSSM, as a mature student, it was an incredible opportunity to be there. At the same time, I was acclimatizing to a very different environment, at school and at home as I had a room in a house of a family in Redding which was very different from my own home in England, and I had pangs of homesickness.
“The International Reception was a very special evening. It was really lovely to meet people from so many other countries and to gain some understanding of their different foods and cultures. The highlight for me was when one of the pastors got up and sang a prophetic song over us, which was straight from the heart of Father God. The words were so comforting and heartwarming, demonstrating that he knew the sacrifices we were making and how we were feeling and how proud He was of us for stepping out in faith.
“In my third year, I was invited to prophesy over the international students, and I sang a song of joy over them, which was a great honor.”
“In my first year of BSSM, I arrived in Redding insecure and really anxious. My first days were exciting, but it was hard to adapt, and I felt really lonely. We attended an event called International Student Reception. We had a Brazilian student (at the time), Paula Romez, and her father singing a Brazilian worship song. When she started to sing, tears flooded because I had this mix of gratitude, love and fear. Fear, because I didn't know what to expect and gratitude of being able to see that my Brazilian colors were welcome in school. And finally love, that helped me to open my heart to school and not be insecure of where I was coming from. I needed a lot of healing and that is, for sure, the beginning of my healing process.
“That is a special time for the international student and crucial for his adapting process to school and life in Redding.”
