Are you NEW to BEC-TV or interested in signing up?
BEC-TV is excited to be kicking off another year of creating award-winning programming for the community, and we're even more excited that YOU are joining us in that mission!
If you've been around BEC for a while, you know that what we do is REALLY appreciated by our viewers worldwide and is also REALLY fun to be a part of. (I LOVE win-win's!)
If you're NEW (or new-ish), welcome to a grand new adventure. We look forward to having you in the BEC-TV family. Be sure you check out the scoop on BEC Basics below. It's coming up FAST and both kids and parents will want to attend.
See ya at the shoots! -Tom Ringdal, BEC-TV Exalted Poobah (and dishwasher)
Big Awards!
We're dang proud that both our PRODUCTIONS and our PEOPLE are winning some pretty high level awards.
This year for the 1st time our students won a NATIONAL AWARD for live sports coverage from the Alliance for Community Media.
Also, BEC-TV's own Lucas Krieg was named AV All-Star by the Midwest Emmy Foundation. BEC-TV has smashed records by having FIVE All-Stars named over 5 consecutive years.
And this summer saw the return of our BEC-TV Tech Awards, honoring current students who have done swell things this past year.

For newer techs and their parents, we will soon be hosting an informational/training session called BEC Basics!
This is optional, but if you've never been to a formal BEC training, you should join us! Click here for more info.
BEC-TV does football coverage up BIG. In fact, our student-led coverage has won several awards in recent years. We cover all TJ/JFK home games at Bloomington Stadium-- some of our most intense, but also most fun productions. On top of that, we have a weekly studio series called "Inside Football" where we interview football players and coaches.
As we continue with our season, we need a reliable lineup of of rockstar techs (and "rock-star-to-be" techs) who can commit to teaming with us for this great experience.
Being on a Regular Crew (as opposed to just signing up for misc. shoots here and there) makes it a lot easier to plan your calendar, something that's nice for both you AND your parents. And, because you'll be working with the same people, you'll develop a deeper camaraderie, and grow together in your skills as a team. And as an extra bonus, if you commit to being on the regular crew you get to order your very own BEC Wear right away
Get the scoop on the "Inside Football" crew here.

We’re still waiting for input from some coaches and booster clubs to decide what other fall sporting events we'll cover. That may include parades, soccer, swimming, volleyball, and more. Plus, we'll have fine arts programs (band, choir, etc).
Yee-Haw! Let's get this show started!
As we get these worked out, they'll be added to our fall Production Calendar. So-- as painful as it sounds-- keep your eyes peeled!
NOW is the time to start signing up for shoots! Check your Google Calendar!
1) Plan ahead with our Production Calendar. Even before we send out invites for shoots, we put them on our production calendar. Check it out in the section above and click the [+] to add it to your Google Calendar so you know what's coming up.
2) A few days before each shoot, we will email you an invitation. BE SURE to respond with a Yes or No. Not responding means you didn't see the invite. (Some parents receive shoot invites too, at their request, just so they know what's up. Parents do NOT need to RSVP.)
3) For a refresher on how to sign up for our shoots on your Google Calendar, see our Responding to BEC-TV Invites page.
We are bringing together content creators and creatives of all kinds! Streamers, storytellers, filmmakers, animators, composers, actors, artists, editors, writers, and more! This group will unite both active and aspiring creatives in a collaborative environment. This is a one-of-a-kind initiative will be student-run and student-centered, and supported by the resources of BEC. We want to put YOU in the driver's seat and give YOU the platform to unleash your creative potential!

Sound familiar? For many years, BEC-TV produced a live late-night tv show called "YRU-UP". This new project-- the Creative Collective-- is inspired by the decades of creative explosion fueled by that show, which ignited the careers of several performers and screenwriters from right here in Bloomington!
Further details are still TBD... the direction of this project is truly in the hands of you, the students... so let's get started!
Whenever possible during a shoot, our techs and staff wear BEC shirts. They're a reminder that we're all working together as a team to create awesome TV!! And anytime we're out filming a concert, a sport, a parade, a graduation, or a school board meeting, we put on our BEC-wear so our community knows who we are and what we do.
We have regular BEC shirts available to borrow for free during our shoots. But you can also get your VERY OWN BEC-wear with your name embroidered on it! There are many (NEW!) options to choose from. Click here to learn more and place your order!
Note: you must attend at least ten shoots or be on a seasonal crew to order BEC-wear.
Just last month, BEC hosted our second summer picnic in post-pandemic times!
We did it potluck-style, back by popular demand, with delicious dishes brought by our techs and their wonderful families! <3
These picnics are the BEST because we get to connect parents, students, and staff in a way that most of our shoots don't allow for. Plus, we gave out some awards to recognize the incredible work our Student Techs do.
Many, many thanks to everyone who came and enjoyed a beautiful summer day with us! We've got even more pictures down at the bottom of this page.
Find links to the production calendar, shoot locations, BEC wear order form, New Tech resources, and more here. Will you find info on where you left your socks? Guess you'll need to look and see!
While we sometimes do recruiting in the schools, we’ve found our BEST source for getting the word out about how awesome it is to work with BEC-TV is by Word of Mouth. If you’re lovin’ your experience being part of a dynamic award winning production team, invite your friends to come check us out too. There aren’t many programs in the schools as FLEXIBLE as BEC-TV, or that offer FREE participation.
Have ‘em tag along with you to a shoot, or fill out our Online Tech Profile Form.
Half a Century of BEC-TV!
This year BEC-TV celebrates an amazing 50 YEARS of serving our community with great programming. We're excited to have YOU along for the ride!
Keep your eyes open for a variety of ways we'll be commemorating this milestone. To start with, here's an article from this fall's "School Pages" that Bloomington Schools mailed out to every house in the city.
BEC-TV Headlines the Back-to-School gathering for Bloomington Schools Staff
This fall when hundreds of Bloomington teachers, admins and support staff gathered they were treated to a fun opening video featuring the awesome BEC-TV team, and introducing our own Tom Ringdal as the MC for the day. It was a fun bit of video-magic as we transitioned seamlessly from the pre-recorded video to live-action as Tom took the stage.
Also, if you've got a spare 12 minutes or so and want a peek into Tom's past as a middle school kid, you may enjoy his humorous and inspiring Monologue from that day.
Tom has been kickin' around Bloomington Schools for 45+ years and is now the longest serving BPS staffer!
Special thanks to our friends at the City of Bloomington, who made this swell feature about BEC-TV for their "Discover Bloomington" series.
