This class is an elective offered to Aloha HS students. Automotive Mechanics is an introductory course designed for students with little or no knowledge of automotive technology. The curriculum emphasizes maintenance fundamentals. Course topics include shop safety, tool identification and use, tires and wheels, lubrication systems, preventative maintenance and basic electrical systems.

The Automotive Technology CTE Option Program located at Aloha High School is designed for students interested in pursing a career in automotive services. Students travel to Aloha High School for three class periods to participate in the program, with district provided transportation. Over the course of the two-year program students learn automotive maintenance and light repair based on Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Education Foundation industry standards. Coursework combines hands-on experience with academic instruction, covering brakes, electrical systems, steering and suspension, engine performance, heating and A/C, and powertrains. Students have opportunities to participate in field trips, job shadows, and internships, gaining leadership experience and industry exposure while preparing for postsecondary training or careers in automotive technology. Membership in SkillsUSA is encouraged to further develop leadership, advocacy, and professional skills. Successful completion of year 2 will award students with the Higher Education & Career Path Skills required course for graduation. Dual Credit: PCC Automotive

This class is a second year continuation in the Automotive Technology Options Program. Students receive advanced theory and hands-on experience in the following ASE Maintenance and Light Repair curriculum in brakes, electrical, steering and suspension, engine performance, engines, heating a/c, and powertrains. In the second year additional training in leadership, work skills and future planning are offered. Students complete task-based activities demonstrating competency in diagnostics. Course activities include visits to industry sites and college programs, job shadows and internships. These activities allow students to become familiar with industry standards that will prepare them for post-secondary training and gainful employment. Students have the opportunity to compete in SkillsUSA contests and the Portland Roadster Show. Classes will be held at the Aloha High School Automotive Technology Shop. Instructors maintain ASE certifications for teaching to a set national curriculum standard. District transportation is provided from a student’s home high school to the Automotive Shop. Return transportation is either provided by the District or Tri-met is provided at no cost to the student. Students who have passed Automotive Technology must forecast to reserve a space in Advanced Automotive Technology.
