Treble Choir
Grades 9-10-11-12
Year/ 1 credit
Treble Choir is an all female OMEA Class C performance group dedicated to a variety of vocal repertoire. It is open to all 9th - 12th grade students who have an interest in choral music and performance. Students study vocal production, music literacy, and voice-part independence skills. Instruction will be in music theory and required solfeggio reading. Concert and popular music literature, both sacred and secular, of medium difficulty is performed. Mandatory public performances include Cabaret, holiday, winter, and spring concerts, and O.M.E.A. District and State contests. Students are required to attend any evening and/or after-school rehearsals scheduled by the director. Participation in 2 fundraisers is required.

Mixed Choir
Grades 9-10-11-12

Mixed Choir is a mixed OMEA Class B performance group dedicated to a variety of vocal repertoire. This course is open to all 9th- 12th graders who have an interest in choral music and performance. Students continue mastery of vocal production, music literacy, and voice-part independence skills. Instruction will be in music theory and required solfeggio reading. Students will learn the intermediate skills of rhythm reading and sight singing. Concert and popular music literature, both sacred and secular, of easy to medium difficulty is performed. Mandatory public performances include Cabaret, holiday, winter, and spring concerts, and O.M.E.A. District and State Contests. Students are required to attend any evening and/or after-school rehearsals scheduled by the director. Participation in 2 fundraisers is required.

Chorale
Grades 9-10-11-12

Beavercreek Chorale is a mixed performing group open to students in grades 9- 12 who have formal choral experience and a basic knowledge of music theory. Members of this advanced chorus are enrolled by audition only and must be willing to put in the time and effort it takes to rehearse and perform difficult music. Instruction will be in music theory and required solfeggio reading. Students will learn the advanced skills of rhythm reading and sight singing. Activities in this class revolve around quality repertoire in many diverse styles of choral literature that are appropriate in difficulty and range for advanced students. Concert and popular music literature, both sacred and secular, of advanced difficulty, is performed. Sight-singing, reading music notation, learning good skills for listening to choral music, healthy vocal technique, and self-evaluation and concert performances make up the content and grade of the course. Students must be willing to sing actively each day and will be expected to learn music chosen by the director. Mandatory performances include regularly scheduled concerts, such as Cabaret, holiday, winter and spring concerts, and graduation. This choir will also perform at District and State O.M.E.A. contests each year and other concerts as required by the director. Participation in 2 fundraisers is required.

Scholarship Chorale

Year / 1 credit
Students enrolled in Scholarship Chorale will be active and engaged members of the Chorale. This course will include all aspects of the scholarship-weighted Chorale and additional required activities each semester, commensurate with the additional course weight. This may include participation in additional performances, Private vocal lessons, O.M.E.A. solo or ensemble contests, and additional research-based coursework.
This course receives weighted grading of 4.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Honors Chorale

Students enrolled in Honors Chorale will be active and engaged members of the Chorale. This course will include all aspects of the scholarship-weighted Chorale and additional required activities each semester, commensurate with the additional course weight. The additional expectations of this course will include: participation in private lessons, theory books, collegiate or state honors ensembles, and involvement in outside performances. and additional research-based coursework.
This course receives weighted grading of 5.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Scholarship Women’s Choir
Grades 10-11-12

The Women's Choir is the most advanced vocal ensemble offering. Women’s choir produces and performs at least 4 concerts annually and consists of a girls-only ensemble. In addition, the group makes guest appearances for many community events and fundraisers. This select vocal course has limited enrollment based upon the need for specific vocal parts; the need may vary from year to year. Extensive knowledge of music theory is required. Instruction will be in advanced music theory and required solfeggio reading. Students are vocally challenged through advanced level of singing and complex harmonies from choral music from the Medieval Period up to Twentieth Century atonal compositions. Sight-singing, reading music notation, learning good skills for listening to choral music, healthy vocal technique, and self-evaluation and concert performances make up the content and grade of the course. Students must be willing to sing actively each day and will be expected to learn music chosen by the director. Mandatory performances include regularly scheduled concerts, such as holiday, winter, and spring concerts, O.M.E.A. District and State Contests, graduation, and other concerts, as required by the director. Students are required to attend any evening and/or after-school rehearsals scheduled by the director. Participation in 2 fundraisers is required.

Performing the finest of band literature, this ensemble performs in a series of concerts throughout the year. This ensemble may also participate in O.M.E.A. events. Students are graded on their daily classwork, playing tests, and skills assessments. Students may earn additional points for involvement in outside musical activities, such as other ensembles or private lessons.

This ensemble has mandatory participation in O.M.E.A. and MFA events, including but not limited to: District Band Adjudicated Event, Solo and Ensemble, and Regional Concert Band Festivals. Students are graded on their daily classwork, playing tests, and skills assessments. In addition to the performance requirements this course requires additional responsibilities, including: service hours

Wind Symphony is a select band that offers the most advanced level high school instrumental music student a variety of opportunities in musical performance. Performing the finest band literature, this ensemble has mandatory participation in O.M.E.A. and MFA events, including but not limited to: District Band Adjudicated Event, Solo and Ensemble, and Regional Concert Band Festivals. Students are graded on their daily classwork, playing tests, and skills assessments. In addition to the performance requirements this course requires additional responsibilities, including: a combination of music service hours, private lessons, outside performance opportunities or student mentoring.

*All performance ensemble music courses have fees that are charged through Beavercreek Music Parents Association (BMPA) for uniform, music, and costume cleaning.
AP Music Theory
Grades 10-11-12
Semester / ½ credit
AP Music Theory is a year-long course that meets daily. This rigorous course covers
concepts of General Music Theory at an accelerated pace then moves on to cover
counterpoint, part-writing, and advanced ear-training and sight-singing skills. The course requires students to be evaluated each week in the following areas: knowledge of music theory concepts, written work, ear training, and sight singing.
This course receives weighted grading of 5.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Fee - $12
Prerequisite: There is no entrance/placement exam for AP Music Theory. However, students must discuss enrollment and receive a recommendation from either the band or choir teacher in order to ensure students have the basis of musical knowledge in order to be successful in AP Music Theory.
