Students are required to earn one credit in Fine Arts to graduate. All BHS and FH art courses count towards the Fine Arts credit.
Course Descriptions
Art I
Grades 9-10-11-12

(This course is a prerequisite for Art 2)
Art I is a foundational course designed to develop confidence in your art skills while being exposed to various mediums. These experiences include two-dimensional and three-dimensional art, emphasizing the elements and principles of art and design. This course introduces students to visual art through basic design, drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, and mixed media. Students will learn art-related techniques, tools, vocabulary, and art history.

Art 2
Grades 10-11-12
Year/ 1 credit
Take your art to the next level! This course includes two-dimensional and three-dimensional projects, with an emphasis on the elements and principles of art and design. Students will explore visual art in-depth through design, drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, and mixed media. Students will be encouraged to become more expressive and creative in their work. Career opportunities in Art will be explored.

Honors Art 3
Grades 11-12
Year / 1 credit
This course is extremely valuable to students who plan to pursue art after high school. This course is designed to help students create both a digital and hard copy portfolio with several pieces of quality artwork that can be presented for college admittance, scholarships, art competitions, or employment. Students will work with a variety of media both 2D and 3D, frequently focusing on the subject and media of their choice. Art career information will be shared with students. College representatives from various art schools will give presentations during class.
This is an Honors course and receives a weighted grade of 5.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Ceramics & Sculpture
Grades 10-11-12
Semester / ½ credit
This course combines the areas of ceramics and sculpture in the creation of 3-dimensional works of art from clay and various media. Students will learn to use hand-building, modeling techniques, and the potter’s wheel.

Digital Arts
Grades 10-11-12
Semester / ½ credit
This course introduces students to beginning digital art tools and techniques using the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite of programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and Animate on industry-standard Mac computers. Students will create original art, graphic designs and simple animations, applying the Elements and the Principles of Art. This is a studio art class that requires in-class participation and emphasizes both technical computer skills and creative art-making.

Drawing
Grades 10-11-12
Semester / ½ credit
This course is for students who like to draw or would like to learn how. A variety of 2D media will be used. Various subject matters will be explored using observational skills and imagination.

Painting

This course is for students who would like to improve their painting skills. The curriculum includes both basic and advanced painting skills.

Photography
Grades 10-11-12
Semester / ½ credit
This course is an introduction to 35mm cameras and digital photography cameras. Emphasis is on camera mechanics, film developing, darkroom printing, digital processing with Adobe Photoshop, and using photography to create art. Students will learn about the history of photography and alternative photo processes. Cameras and all supplies are provided by the high school to use during class time.
