Personal Finance
Grades 10-11-12
Semester / ½ credit
This course will start students on a path toward being in control of their financial futures. Students will learn how to budget, save, spend wisely, avoid debt, and give. A thorough understanding of financial concepts will enable students to leave this course with applicable and useful skills for life. This course studies the personal financial needs of most individuals and emphasizes the basics of college and career planning, budgeting, saving, checking, investments, credit, the wise use of insurance, paying and preparing income tax returns, and more. Students taking this course will learn to better prepare for their financial futures.
*This class meets the financial literacy graduation requirement for the class of 2024 and beyond. Priority registration will be given to those students who need this course for graduation.

Yearbook

The high school yearbook, Beaver Tales, is an intensive project completed by a selected staff of 12-18 students. Responsible for all creative aspects of the yearbook, Beaver Tales staff members design, write, edit, photograph, and distribute the book. Students with an interest in computer design, photography, and writing are encouraged to apply. Application packets are made available prior to registration typically in late January. Students must go through the application, interview, and recommendation process to become a part of the staff. It is recommended that Beaver Tales staff members have their own digital camera, 10 MP minimum.

Prerequisite: “B” average in English, teacher recommendations, application, and selection by instructor.
Business Communications

Semester / ½ credit
Students will master the oral and written communication skills essential to interact effectively with people in the workplace and society. Students will also have the opportunity to earn their 12-point Industry Credential through the National Retail Federation’s Rise Up program. Students will work towards their Retail Industry Fundamentals and Customer Service and Sales Specialist credentials. The competencies that students will be able to demonstrate include workplace readiness, customer service and sales, and effective communication when working in a customer facing environment. ** This class will be invitation-only. Students will be assigned to this class by their counselor.
