This week in Year 5, we completed our final line of inquiry by exploring Stone Age symbols. We looked closely at different cave paintings and symbols and discussed what evidence they give us about how people lived in the Stone Age. We thought about what the images tell us about hunting, animals, beliefs and daily life. It was interesting to see how much we can learn from simple pictures left behind thousands of years ago. Inspired by this, we designed our own personal symbols to represent who we are, including our interests, personalities and values. We then included our symbols in a creative painting piece to express ourselves, just like people did in the Stone Age.
In writing, we focused on developing the skill of “show, not tell.” Using pictures of different emotions — including an image of a family during the Great Plague — we practised describing feelings without naming them directly. We worked hard to use powerful vocabulary and descriptive details. We then conferenced in pairs to give each other feedback and carefully edited our writing to improve it further.
....And that brings Module 3 to a close - Have a great half term holiday everyone!
