What is World Book Day?
World Book Day is a charity operating in the UK and Ireland with a mission to change lives through a love of books. Their goal is to promote reading for pleasure, helping children develop a life-long habit that opens up a world of opportunity.
When is our celebration?
While the national date is Thursday, we will be celebrating on Friday 6th March. We have moved our celebration by one day to ensure it doesn’t clash with our busy schedule of events (including Parents’ Evening!).
The Great Costume Challenge: Bring a Character to Life!
To celebrate, children are invited to dress up as a specific character from a book they have enjoyed.
A Note on Costumes: While we know many children love superheroes and film icons, the heart of this day is reading. We kindly ask that costumes specifically represent a character from a storybook, novel, or poem rather than a generic movie character.
Keep it Simple and Creative:
Please do not feel pressured to purchase an expensive, shop-bought outfit. In fact, we encourage "homemade and creative" over "store-bought"!
Can a cardboard box become a character?
Can an old sheet or a bit of face paint tell a story?
We want the children to be able to talk to their peers about who they are and which book they jumped out of.
The £1 Book Token Every child will receive a £1 World Book Day token on the day. These can be swapped for one of the exclusive, new World Book Day books or used as a £1 discount against any full-priced book at participating retailers.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us share the love of reading. We can't wait to see which characters arrive at school on the 6th!
