This week in Scotney and Sissinghurst Class we have enjoyed lots of exciting learning across the curriculum. In Maths, we explored patterns through the months of the year and the days of the week. We talked about how these repeat in a cycle and used calendars to help us understand the order of days and months. The children enjoyed spotting patterns and noticing what stays the same and what changes. We also focused on making pairs and began learning about doubling numbers up to 8. The children used practical resources, such as counters and cubes, to find doubles and explain their thinking.
We had a wonderful time learning about Chinese New Year. We discovered how it is celebrated and talked about some of the traditions linked to the festival. The children particularly enjoyed using powder paint to practise writing Chinese numbers, carefully forming the marks and taking pride in their creations. This activity supported both their understanding of number and their fine motor development.
In Phonics, we learnt the digraphs ‘ch’ and ‘sh’. The children practised recognising these sounds in words, blending them for reading and using them in their writing. We were so impressed with their enthusiasm and growing confidence.
It has been a busy and productive week, and we are very proud of all the children’s hard work and positive attitudes to learning.
