There is a big difference between keeping a child busy and keeping a child LEARNING. I'm not a fan of keeping a child busy. I'm a huge fan of keeping a child learning. The difference between the two usually lies in the term "worksheets". Worksheets are an opportunity to practice what you learned, but do not teach content. They allow you to reinforce content taught. So, whose going to teach that content? Unless there is specific content being professionally taught, the worksheets will be nothing but busy work. That is problematic because the student can easily do the work incorrectly and thereby reinforce doing it wrong.
With the endeavor of providing valuable opportunities to LEARN and reinforce what has been taught I would recommend the following learning tools for your student this summer
MATH
ROCKET MATH - The single most important thing your child can do this summer in Math is learn their MATH FACTS. Rocket math teaches, reinforces, and monitors your child progress. Rocket Math is available through CLEVER. Your student has been doing ROCKET MATH in school and will be familar with the program
I-READY MATH - This interactive educational website learning platform is used by CSUSA and a massive number of school districts across the United States. It is available to your student through CLEVER. Your student has been using this all year and is well familiar with it. They should complete 60 minutes of math and 60 minutes of reading each week of the summer break.
IF a parent is going to monitor and check the student's work, then math worksheets can be helpful.
Math Aids Worksheets is a website that offers a huge inventory of free math worksheets in the many subjects of math (addition, subtraction, [ regrouping] word problems, fractions, time, geometry...) One BIG caveat - don't use Math Worksheets UNLESS you are willing to review the work with them so they don't practice making mistakes
Khan Academy [math] available at ( Khan Academy ). Khan Academy is a FREE educational website platform that offers a curriculum to your child with instruction and independent practice. Curriculum coursework you may consider are: UP TO 2nd Grade, 2nd Grade, Get Ready for 3rd grade

READ - unless your student is reading with a person actively listening to them, don't do this. This has to be meaningful time when a child reads and a listener - listens and offers suggestions/corrections as needed. This is MOST helpful when a student reads the same text/book numerous times (3-5, or more) A student gains greatly when they practice re-reading a text and getting more and more fluent with it. Please take the time to do this with your child.
RAZ KIDS. is available at ( Raz Kids ). There are a larger inventory of books online and available to your child on their reading level. There are questions on comprehension and vocabulary. please see that your child is doign these as well. Avoid the student choosing to listen to the book. Have them read ALL the books they choose.
