When it comes to reading, students need to be challanged; however, if the book is a bit too difficult problems may develop. Everyone wants to be successful at everything they do, and kids are no different. If a child is successful in reading (and comprehending) a book, they feel successful and enjoy the process. The students success empowers them to continue and take confidence in their ability to read more. If the text they are reading is too frustrating to them, they will loose confidence and begin to shut down. They will resist reading to you (or themselves) because they don't see themselves as successful, and who wants to struggle (or fail) at anything?
