At Barlby Bridge School, our aim is to be ASPIRATIONAL in developing a love of language and an appreciation of other cultures. Our lessons begin in Year 3 and flow throughout the whole of Key Stage 2. The core elements of our lessons focus on phonics and grammatical structures, much the same as they would when teaching the English language. We develop from phonetic knowledge to reading, writing and oracy in French, producing a sequence of learning around important themes. As we aim to develop young linguists in the modern world, we have carefully selected topics which will be useful for our pupils in the future: we cover an array of themes such as the environment, well-being, number and travel. Selecting these vital areas gives our children the building blocks necessary for their life-long learning of languages beyond the primary phase.
