Another message from ATU about a program found only on their campus, HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT:
My name is Sara Daniel, and I am an Assistant Professor of Health Information Management at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville. Our program has some new materials that we would like to share with you. The first attachment is an infographic that provides the basics about the program as well as a few testimonials from some recent graduates. The second attachment is a brochure that goes into more details about the HIM program at ATU and the career field.
You may not have heard of HIM before. Health Information Management is a growing and changing field! We are the professionals that help keep all of your health information, such as your history and physical, medications, and blood pressure readings safe and secure. We also help capture and analyze that data to help determine trends for clinical information and population health. As the field of healthcare moves into artificial intelligence, big data, electronic health records, and increasing technology—not to mention billing, reimbursement, third-party payers, etc-- it is more important than ever that we help keep patients’ health information accurate, private, and secure. We don’t provide direct patient care, but we impact patient health outcomes by providing quality patient information at every point in the healthcare delivery cycle—from patient registration to treatment to reimbursement. HIM professionals can be found in many career settings such as hospitals, physicians’ offices, law firms, healthcare vendors, government agencies, health information technology, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, research institutions, and more!
Arkansas Tech University is the only school in the state of Arkansas that offers a Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management (Russellville campus). We also offer an Associate’s degree in Health Information Technology (Ozark campus) and a Master’s degree in Health Informatics (online program). We are an accredited program, so upon graduation, our students are eligible to complete the Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) exam to earn their credentials. The job outlook for HIM professionals is great! The US Bureau of Labor Statistics cites HIM as one of the fastest growing occupations in the US, with an anticipated growth of 32% in the next 10 years. HIM professionals also have the potential to earn a very good salary. https://www.bls.gov/ooh/management/medical-and-health-services-managers.htm
If you or your students have any questions, please don’t hesitate to have them reach out to us. My contact information is on this e-mail, and our program director’s information is on the brochure. Here are a few links you might find helpful:
