Student attendance is very important to us at ASL! Students who consistently attend school and arrive at school each day are better equipped to make school family connections and stay abreast of their academic learning. Daily student attendance also affects our budget. Our school loses money every time a student is absent from school (whether it is excused or not).
Attendance is taken in School Pathways, our School Information System (SIS). This system is NEW for ALL staff this school year (2023-2024). Staff will be trained on how to use School Pathways during our August professional development. You should contact Human Resources at humanresources@aveson.org if you need support logging in to your account.
Attendance needs to be taken on School Pathways at 8:30am each day. Students are considered tardy after 8:30am. Any student who arrives before 8:30 is considered "on-time". Any student who arrives after 8:30 should have a yellow tardy slip from the front office. If they do not, please send them to the front office to be checked by the front office staff. Tardies will be marked by the front office. School Pathways defaults to P (present). Advisors should only mark TR (truant).
Advisors have many strategies and solutions for making sure this important task gets completed each day. For example, set an alarm as a reminder, making attendance a part of the morning advisory ritual or having a student job that is the daily attendance reminder person.
Additionally, all advisors are required to sign off on the weekly attendance verification forms. The front office staff will let you know when these are available for you to sign.
If a parent/guardian informs you that their student will be absent, redirect the parent to email: attendance@aveson.org
If you have a chronically tardy or absent student you should reach out to the family via email, ParentSquare or by phone to set up a meeting with you. If advisors are having a hard time reaching a family or the student's attendance does not improve after reaching out to the family, advisors should contact their Director team for support. Additionally, Student Attendance Review Board policies will be enacted. See the link below for more information:
There are times when a parent/guardian needs to have their child miss school for an extended period of time. In these cases, parent/guardians may request an Independent Study Contract. If a family informs you of their plans to miss school, please redirect them to Jody Funes, our Office Assistant, who oversees Independent Study Contracts. Advisors will be responsible for working closely with Jody to meet strict timelines in order to complete the Independent Study Contract.
