MATH
At ASL we use the Eureka math curriculum Tk - 5th grade. Eureka math is published by Great Minds. There are two components to the Eureka math curriculum:
Printed Materials - Teacher Guides and Workbooks! Each grade level receives teacher guides and workbooks for each student. These are ordered at the end of the school year for the next school year. These materials get sorted during the summer and are stored in advisors' classrooms.
Eureka Math In Sync - This is a digital platform for advisors to use to supplement their use of the printed curriculum. Each advisor will receive their own log-in information to access the digital platform. However, we also have a demo account that anyone can use at anytime to explore the content:
In Sync Site: digital.greatminds.org
Log-in via email: teacherdemo4@greatmindsdemo.org
Password: GMDemo23!
Math advisors are also encouraged to create an account with the Great Minds website so that they can create their own dashboard and access many free materials and resources such as pacing guides and curriculum maps.

PROJECTS
At ASL, the concept and philosophy of "projects" and the projects class was developed and cultivated overtime by master educators who combined PML and SEL into real life, hands on learning across all content areas.
In the projects classroom, students immerse themselves in inquiry based study embedded in Common Core Standards, 21st Century and Global Competency skills.
At the heart of this learning is self reflection and metacognitive thinking; deepening students'understanding of who they are as learners and who they are as advocates for themselves and others.
The key steps to an authentic project process are:
Investigate/Research
Evaluate
Take Action
Communicate/Present
Reflect
The key tools to an authentic project process are:
Rubrics
Interactive Notebooks/Cornell Notes
Digital Citizenship
Students at ASL engage in two inquiry based project cycles, culminating in a Celebration of Learning:
Student Passion Project - December COL
Group Global Perspectives Project - May COL

Until then, they are in the Connections Room. Each collection has a sign-out book. Staff are expected to sign-out the book(s) they are wishing to use and return them in a timely manner for other staff to be able to use :
a.) Pollyanna Curriculum collection - ASL owns three sets of each title for the entire curriculum K-5th grade.

Peer Observation & Coaching!
In the spirit of collaboration, getting outside of our personal classroom spaces and supporting SEL and academic growth for our students, our in-house substitute advisor, gets booked for the third Friday of each month starting in September through May for advisors to sign-up to go and see other advisors in action!
Perhaps you are dying to see an SEL, Pollyanna, or consent lesson during a colleague's advisory time. Or maybe you want to see small group math instruction. Perhaps, you are eager to see a writer's workshop lesson in action or need ideas for how to make PE more engaging. We have a wealth of expertise and experts right in our very own school! This is meant to be a low-key, organic collaborative process between advisors and a way to deepen and enhance your SEL and PML practices.
Process:
Connect with the advisor you wish to observe. Discuss your observation focus and what your observation outcomes might be.
Sign-up on the sign-up post that gets sent at the beginning of each school year via ParentSquare. If the times aren't quite right for your needs, please reach out to Casey so we can adjust the times to fit your schedule.
Meet with the advisor you observed within one week's time to discuss the observation, ask questions and come up with an implementation plan for ideas you might have gleaned.
Advisors may sign-up for a maximum of 2 observations in one day and may sign-up for as many days as they need throughout the school year.
All students should receive data driven, small group instruction within the classroom setting. However, some students need Tier 3 levels of support to help them achieve their full potential. This year, ASL will continue with a pull-out and push-in literacy intervention program, using the SIPPS curriculum. This program is overseen by our Literacy Intervention Advisor, Lisa Detwiler and two Instructional Assistants. We currently do not have a math intervention program.
