Each student will edit a photo portrait and apply effective grid design and visual hierarchy.
Following our photography unit, students were given the option to choose one of the photos they took, or a photo taken by a peer and turn it into a gridded portrait. Students used Gimp to complete this project.
The purpose of this project is to get students familiar with grid and layout design for yearbook and general graphic design layout techniques.
If a student did not have a photo of themselves, they used a portrait covered under fair use for redistribution so they can continue to practice effective digital citizenship.
Students also apply visual hierarchy by determining which squares and rectangles should be bigger in reference to parts of themselves they think are most important to see first (such as the eyes, the mouth, hands, etc.).
