Each student will design an original font that demonstrates emotion and fits a unified theme.
Each font will correctly sit on the baseline, an x-height, and the cap-height.
In this project, students design a font around a cohesive theme. They also combine two font categories to create their own unique and original font that can be downloaded and actually used as a .ttf (true type font) file. Files are available for download and installation here.
To the left you can see examples of select student fonts that creatively and cleanly showcases everything there is to know about font design.
This means students are able to demonstrate appropriate use of a baseline, an x-height, and the cap-height within their final design and have done so cleanly and neatly.
For this project, your student will design their font in the template below (click on it for a printable version) found on calligraphr.com. If they ever lose this template, you can click on the image of it below and print it from there.
Students need to be mindful of the baseline, which is the second light grey line from the bottom and where all their letters sit on, their x-height, where only their lower case letters go to, and cap-height, the top most grey line at the top.
Students can follow the steps in the video below or the step-by-step instructions on how to turn their template into a usable font. Students can also use this outside of my classroom
