Each student will be able to create an original pixel art piece that demonstrates shading with a consistent light source and uses dithering to blend values together.
For this project, each student is given a choice on what to do for their final pixel art project. It can be a landscape, fanart, favorite objects, whatever they choose.
In Lesson 1, students are taught how to create a value scale and use dithering to shade between values.
Students are taught how to identify a light source for any given image and how to apply shading with a light source.
Lastly, students learn about the shading method known as stippling and transfer that knowledge to the pixelated equivalent known as dithering.
Includes shading with several values.
Uses a variety of dithering styles (at least 2) between each value in the image.
Has a consistent light source (all shadows are on the same side/same direction, all highlights are opposite the shadows and consistently the same side).
Turned in as a .PNG file.
At least 5 steps of value in a color of the student's choice
At least 3 different dithering patterns/styles between values.
Each dithering pattern is symmetrical on both sides of the value it is combining.
Turned in as a .PNG file.
Include shading with at least 5 values each.
Uses dithering between each value.
Has a consistent light source (all shadows are on the same side/same direction, all highlights are opposite the shadows and consistently the same side).
Turned in as a .PNG file.
