ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: How can words be art? How can art express opinions and stances?
When starting out, the first thing you need to do is determine your tag style. You need to think about symbols, line gestures, shapes, and overall feel of your tag until you have a good idea of what your tag style is.
Once you have your tag style down, you can use it as a sort of skeleton to draw the blocks or bubbles around before adding flourishes and other styles. You draw a box or bubble over every line in the letters then erase the interior so you just have the silhouette of each letter outline left.
Now that you've made your graffiti style lettering into box or bubble letters, to really make them pop you want to make them 3D. You could wing it, but I am a firm believer that you need to know the rules to break the rules so knowing how to apply 1-point perspective will help make your 3D Lettering look more accurate to the untrained and trained eye. This tutorials will walk you through it!
