SCIENCES

The Science curriculum at Kellands has been designed to allow children the opportunity to explore, investigate and learn about the world around them through fun, hands-on and engaging activities.

Developing a secure understanding of science's Big Ideas and skills will set pupils up for life-long learning and, in the future, when they enter the world of work.

Science is an important part of our heritage and we use its applications every day in our lives at work, at leisure and in the home. Science and the application of science are central to our economic future and to our health and wellbeing as individuals and as a society.

Kellands has focused on building a strong science knowledge base and key investigative skills as well as developing a questioning, scientific mindset.

Different science topics are spread across the pupils' time at Kellands, ensuring a wide range of interests to be explored, age-appropriate topics of learning and building upon these over the years.

Whilst key areas have been highlighted on our Kellands' Journey, other areas of science will be taught along with other areas of the curriculum and topic lessons.

While using science can be taught as a discreet subject, at Kellands it is designed to use other areas of the curriculum in real-life situations. For example: maths when recording and presenting findings, technologies to record investigations or literacy sharing findings.

Technology and Engineering outcomes naturally lend them to many areas of science and have been planned into the curriculum.

To ensure our pupils are ready for the world of work and to ensure a consistent approach across the school, key science skills are expressed using our DYW skills language.

Sustainability is of huge importance and ensuring that our pupils become responisbile citizens by allowing developing a full understanding our Earth's resources and processes allowing them to make ethical descisions as they grow.

But we'll let the children show you what science at Kellands looks like...
