At Kellands, we celebrate our school, our pupils and our values with engaging assemblies. These take place throughout each term and are delivered in a variety of ways, some take place in our school hall, some are digital (pre-recorded and beamed into classrooms) and sometimes, when the weather is kind to us, we take our assemblies outside to our MUGA (Multi-use Games Area). Our assemblies are always driven by our values and are often thematic, promoting key dates, raising awareness of great causes, and celebrating our children's learning and wider achievements.
We promote our values and positive relationships through the medium of song! Our school anthem, 'Where Everybody is Somebody' is sang at all our school assemblies. Below, you will find a video with the music, lyrics and Makaton actions so you can singalong and practise at home.
The origins of our song date back to 2020 (or even further if you've ever heard 'Peggy Sue', ssshhh!) when our Primary 1 class at the time, learnt and performed the song as part of their home learning (see the video to the right). It was so well received by other year groups, parents and staff that we rolled it out to the whole school, and so an anthem was born!
During the first term and the last term of the year we have super-fun 'workout' assemblies that take place on our MUGA (Multi-use Games Area) with our workout mascot, Bananas the Monkey!
Our digital assemblies were born out of Lockdown restrictions and proved so popular with children, staff and our wider school community that we continue to record a number of digital assemblies each term. These often contain regular features like our School song, 'Where Everybody is Somebody', Wider Achievements and House of Fun challenges.
Each week we celebrate our school values with Positive Postcards. These are awarded to pupils to recognise, praise and take pride in their achievements and efforts.
