SPORTS COMMITTEE

At Kellands, we are always keen to give our pupils a voice in how we can keep improving as a school. Our Kellands Sports Committee support MUGA workout assemblies, organise staff vs. pupil events, ensure sports equipment is being looked after and order new equipment when necessary, as well as improve playground lunchtimes by encouraging sporting activities.

Let us introduce this year’s Kellands Sports Committee!

Blake, Ella, Ellie, Alex, Archie, Scarlett and Abdul led their first whole school workout assembly and were absolutely brilliant!

They'll be working hard this year promoting sport and exercise throughout school.

In May 2024, Kellands Primary were presented with their Sportscotland Gold School Sports Award. They were joined by Ian McGregor, Partnership Manager for Sportscotland and Pete Young, Active Schools Lead Coordinator for a celebratory whole school workout which also focused on raising awareness of hearing loss to coincide with deaf awareness week.

Teacher Matthew Gray said: 'Pupil health and wellbeing is a large part of our ethos at Kellands. Our staff, volunteers and partner organisations are always willing to go above and beyond to provide high-quality opportunities in sport and physical activity for our learners.'

"It's been great to see the pupils taking ownership of their sport and exercise as they worked towards their gold award - an achievement which helps recognise the efforts of everybody involved. We're very proud and would like to thank the active schools team for their guidance and support, as well as Ian from Sportscotland for taking the time to visit and help us celebrate.'

Pete Young, Active Schools Coordinator, said: “I am delighted that Kellands hard work and dedication to providing physical activity opportunities to its pupils has been rewarded with this prestigious award, one of only four schools in Aberdeenshire to have achieved this since it was relaunched. The whole school community has every reason to be proud of this accomplishment”.

Chief Executive of Sportscotland, Forbes Dunlop, said: “The importance of sport in school life cannot be underestimated and being awarded a Sportscotland Gold School Sport Award is a testament to the hard work and effort of pupils, teachers, and volunteers across a school.

"Many congratulations to Kellands Primary School on receiving their gold rating, every person who has been involved in getting here should be very proud of this brilliant achievement”.
