Tarot of the Rising Sun

Characters and worlds. Stories and games. Heroes, villains, and everything in between. I find joy in creating art that both challenges and appreciates these aspects. For this project, I chose to take a few select cards from the major arcana of a typical tarot deck and reimagine them as characters present in traditional Japanese mythology and folklore. By combining two separate worlds that interest me—tarot and mythology—I begin to think about similarities and differences in characters and symbolism between cultures. It brings a change in perspective that is unique. We often search for temporary liberation from our mundane plot lines in illustrated universes and fictional aesthetics. I aim to create that escape one word or pixel at a time.
