5 Years is a series of installations that aims to bring more awareness to mental illness and how those inflicted recover. Through the use of 5,000 roses, different installations have been created to highlight aspects of a recovery process. Weight represents the inability to function and the heaviness of depression that holds a person down. Rose Bath shows the aspect of self-care that is needed to make it through recovery, even when everything seems too overwhelming. Immersion signifies all of the discomfort that goes along with recovery. Past represents each individual step that was taken throughout the journey and being able to look back at every decision that was made as a whole. These installations give a physical form to some of the aspects of recovery that go unseen and are misunderstood.
