Dana McCabe

Art is a map of the world that is projected inside one's head. I explore the visceral, the dream-state, and the space that my body resides in when I am experiencing psychosis and the full force of bipolar I disorder. I am a huge advocate for the de-stigmatization of mental health and the dialogue that surrounds it. While my art is deeply personal, it is not meant to romanticize my experience with these intense mental illnesses, as I use bright colors and sweeping marks to describe the phenomena. My art explores what it means to be an entity of multiplicity; I am both artist and ill. Through my exploration of art and self, I find a way to balance both and create work that displays intense emotion through color and dream space.
